De Salentein is a country estate in Nijkerk, in the middle of the Netherlands. On the estate an old coach house is located, which is in use as a restaurant. After a reconstruction that took a few months, the coach house now gives place to two restaurants: The refined De Salentein and the grill restaurant El Portillo.
QuA used Argentinean influences within the interior design of the Salentein. This is visible in the choice of materials, such as rock stone, marble, wood and glass and in the subtle usage of colours. This, together with the graphical elements that were inspired by plants and animals and the placement of big garden doors in the front of the restaurant make the restaurant a modern translation of a traditional Argentinean hacienda.
While the Salentein is classic and refined, the other restaurant, El Portillo is much more rough, earthy and dark with a big grill as the centre piece. In this location, the life on the Argentinean pampas was clearly used as an inspiration. |
